No church leader dreams to have the same size church in ten years. No denomination aspires to maintain the line for the next decade. No passionate leader gives their lifeblood for no growth. Multiplication is the goal - and the key to turning addition to multiplication is equipping those who were 'recently harvested' (new believers) to work in the harvest!

Jesus made a powerful statement which should cause all church leaders to examine themselves deeply. He said “He who is not for me is against me and he who does not gathers scatters.” Matthew 12:30. According to this verse, gathering is a proof of being ‘for’ Christ - and not gathering of the opposite. This is worthy of reflection.

An intentional discipleship pathway is needed if any church is going to grow from incremental to multiplication. How could you create a simple - yet effective, pathway for discipleship? There are some keys, and I have seen them work with success both in Myanmar and here in New Zealand.

There is no greater message to be heard than that which we call the gospel. But as important as that is, it is often given to massive distortions or over simplifications. People think they’re preaching the gospel to you when they tell you, ‘you can have a purpose to your life’. What actually is the gospel seed?

Last month I began to share with you an encounter I had with a young man as he shared with me a presentation called ‘The Four Fields’. Please re-read Part 1 to give you context for Part 2.

‘Go’ to ‘Engage’ is the first field and without a doubt, engagement is a critical first step when it comes to working in God’s harvest field. Salt must engage with the earth and light must engage with the world.

Recently I was approached by a young man at a conference I was speaking at who asked if he could take a few minutes to share ‘The Four Fields’. I had no idea what it was about but I gave him the ok. He then proceeded to pull out an A4 sheet of paper and a pen. Then he began. It took him no more than two minutes to sketch out a diagramme on the paper explaining as he went. At the end of his two minutes I was thrilled and encouraged. So much so, that I have since shared the same ‘The Four Fields’ presentation to many, especially over the last two months as I met church leaders throughout the country on the Hope Project Vision Tour. It is this presentation I will be sharing with you over the next few months as I step by step share the presentation and potential applications for your encouragement.

Last month I shared a few thoughts concerning what you can do to feed the flame of evangelism. I encouraged you to 1. Look for places where a missional fire is already burning. 2. Consider the nature of the fires that already exist and 3. Reflect on what type of fuel you will need to stoke those fires.

Maintaining missional motivation in a church requires regular feeding of its missional fires. If fuel is not added to missional intent the fire will die down and instead of having a church roaring with evangelistic passion and action, it can become a collection of glowing embers, slowly losing heat and intensity.
