Sometimes the opportunities come to us – like in Delwyn’s story. But there was more to this story than is in the video.
More to the story…
After coming to faith on a weekday, the wife in the story was driven by her husband to attend one of the church’s small group meetings on a weekday evening. The husband had no intent to go in – declining an invitation to do so. As they arrived Delwyn felt prompted to go outside to welcome people arriving. As she walked down the drive the husband sitting in the car saw her face and said afterwards that he could no longer drive away. He felt compelled to come in.
Inside they shared various testimonies about things God had done, and it was there that he made his own decision to receive God’s gift, and follow Jesus too.
Reflection:
Delwyn and her husband pastor an Elim church, and have have been particularly intentional over the past few years to teach about personal outreach. They have sought to impart the heart of Jesus for the ‘lost’ through their pulpit – and report that most members are getting this.
Other churches who are also intentionally equipping their members for outreach are reporting similar stories. They are ‘mysteriously’ seeing an increase in the number of ‘random’ visitors.
Maybe, as we become more prepared for God’s core work through prayer, and through intentionally learning necessary outreaching skills, we make ourselves more useful to the master (2 Timothy 2:20-21)!
